A former Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Abraham Boadi alias Opooman has described the Ashanti Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Nsenkyire as a coward.
This follows Mr. Nsenkyire denial of his comment in a video where he is seen declaring support for Chairman Wontumi and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in their upcoming elections for Regional Chairmanship and Flagbearer respectively.
The video which has gone viral on social has Mr. Nsenkyire cajoling some people supposed to be polling station and constituency executives. He assures their positions would be retained once they also ensure Chairman Wontumi and Bawumia succeed.
According to him, when the plan goes well, he and Chairman Wontumi going unopposed for First Vice and Regional Chairman respectively will lead to Vice President, Dr. Bawumia also going unopposed for the flag bearership position.
The video generated a lot of controversy in the Ashanti region as party members could not control their anger but went on radio and television to verbally abuse Mr. Nsenkyire.
The attacks perhaps, too hot for Mr. Nsekyire to bear with, has forced him to deny his own comments in the video. He stated, “I was taken out of context, I don’t even like unopposed elections.”
However, the renowned Local Assembly expert who is a former Presiding Member of KMA says Mr. Nsenkyire’s “cowardice has made him take the u-turn.”
He continued, “This is how he always plays his game, how come such a thick tall man be such a coward. Sometimes, this is the problem of our party.
“This is a party that wants to break the eight, instead of the chairman, first vice, second vice, promoting the policies and developments of the government, he is thinking about his selfish interest; unopposed. And we will use these people to break the eight?
“Now we are in power, we need the administrators, somebody who can manage the Party communicators, resource them and let them promote the policies and project the governance so that voters will love our party, and sometimes to share the difficulties of the government with the people so that the people will sympathize with the government.
“Look at the caliber of persons you are using in your stronghold that you say you are going to break the eight. We need to get all of them out of the system.”
Speaking to Nana Yaw Joel on the Oyerepa FM, Opooman insisted that the party needs administrators who can manage the party and not lose talkers who will destroy the unity of the party.
He indicated that the NPP government is working but the party in the region has been dormant, adding that “go and ask the communicators, their phones have spoilt, they haven’t even been employed for them to get money to buy phones and speak on behalf of the party on radio and television.”
He expressed regret supporting Chairman Wontumi at the expense of senior and experienced persons like Chairman Robert Amankwah and Dr. Anane.
“When I compare Chairman Amankwah and Dr. Anane’s ways of managing the party in the region to what these people are doing, I have realized, and regret that I fought for these people in vain,” he stated. By James Appiakorang
