The Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region,on Friday, 24th September, 2021 fails to endorse President Akufo-Addo’s nominee,Hon Michael Amoah Awuku as MCE.
The nominee needed 21 members to be able to meet 2/3 majority of 31 Assembly Members but unfortunately,
Hon Michael Amoah Awuku had 19 of YES votes as against 12 members who voted NO .
Per the elections proceedings, the Assembly has within 10 days time for re-elections to determine the faith of President’s nominee.
Speaking to the media after the elections, Hon John Hawkson Anane, Presiding Member of Assembly expressed worried over the out come of the results.He was however, confident that things would turn round in ten days time in favour of the nominee .
Other members of the Assembly who also spoke to Journalists expressed similar worried about their inability to confirm the President’s nominee.
The Meeting presided over by Hon John Hawkson Anane, Presiding Member of the Assembly was witnessed by many diginatries including Hon .Simon Osei Mensah,the Ashanti Regional Minister.The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission(EC)
