The New Trust Newspaper has gathered that, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) led by acting Mayor,Hon.Osei Assibey Antwi has successfully relocated over Seven thousand(7,000) traders to Race Course and Nana Afia Kobi Ampem market popularly known as Abinkyi market.
The affected traders comprise of those with lockable shops,shed,tables etc.The relocation exercise became possible following the directive by the Ashanti Regional Minister,Hon.Simon Osei Mensah to the traders as well as series of engagement and publicity about the exercise to traders at Zones 3 and 4 at the Central market.
The relocation exercise is to pave way for the Contractor working on the 2nd phase of the Kejetia redevelopment to get access to continue their work without any hindrances.
As part of their responsibility to ensure relocation of the affected traders,KMA has so far been able to relocate majority of the affected traders to the official designated resettlement markets;Race Course,Nana Afia Kobi Ampem market(Abinkyi Market).
The Assembly in a joint operation successfully embarked on a demolishing exercise at zone 3 and 4 areas at the Central market among other parts on Monday morning. The affected traders of the demolished area include second hand cloth sellers among others.
Hon.Osei Assibey Antwi in a telephone interview said it was KMA responsibility to ensure relocation of the traders and they have done exactly that. Adding that, the Assembly’s doors were still opened to any affected traders who still have challenge and needed to be found resettlement space.He commended the traders especially their leaders and other stakeholders for their cooperation.
