The Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Constituency Chairman, has hinted that the country would soon bounce back from the current financial challenges facing it.
He explained that the government’s economic management team was working very hard to turn things around and revamp the economy which has seen a nose diving as a result of the Covid-19 which has affected the nation’s sources of revenue such as industry and other economic activities and the rest of the world.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah gave the hint last Friday during the constituency’s edition of the delegates conference at Kodie, Hemang, Kyerase and Old Atimatim all in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency in the Ashanti region.
The four conferences brought together delegates of the party from various zones in the constituency.The NPP on Saturday, August 21, 2021, began its annual delegates’ conference for 2021 across the country.
The one-week event which is being held in all 275 constituencies is in accordance with Article 7(27) of the party’s constitution.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah recounted how the covid-19 invasion has brought about a meltdown in various facets of countries leading to a slow down in economic and social developments.
He was full of praise to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the prudent management of the nation’s economy although cashflow was very weak.
The Constituency Chairman said, “now that the economy is stabilizing, there was the need for us all to support the President to continue with the effort to turn things around to put the economy on a level footing”.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah was upbeat that everything possible was being done by the government to ease the current state of affairs which he described as a global phenomenon due to the invasion of the covid-19.
He assured the people that the government would bounce back with the various development projects they were expecting to improve the standard of living of the people.
He said, “let us put our past behind, open up and share your views on how to move the party forward. Let us learn to heal wounds. as human as we are whenever there is a contest certainly there would be stepping of tows but that does not mean we should fight or break up our front because of such conflicts or issues”.
The Constituency Chairman commended the constituents and supporters of the party for their hard work leading to the attainment of 88 per cent in the 2020 general election and urged them to redouble their effort to retain the gains made in the past.
Odeneho Appiah charged the people to show more dedication in the upcoming members drive and registration exercise to increase membership of the party, adding that breaking the 8-year cycle required a powerful organizational skills from the grassroot.
He described an upcoming membership drive and registration exercise as very crucial in the 2024 Parliamentary and general election calling it “death and life exercise” as it had the capacity to determine whether the party will retain power or go into opposition.
The Deputy Minister for Energy, Mr William Owureku Aidoo, also lauded the President for the prudent management of the covid-19 which had attracted the admiration of neighbouring countries
He explained that with the current situation, it is time for things to improve as industry and other businesses are putting in place the right measures to improve their operations.
The District Chief Executive for Afigya Kwabre South, Mr Christian Adu Poku, said, roads in the area are going to see a massive improvement due to the fact that most of them had been awarded on contract and awaiting the contractors to move to site to begin working.
He said the battle for the 2024 general election was not far from now so there was the need for the party to begin serious work towards winning the next election.
Mr Adu Poku called on members to use dialogue in resolving every issue that crop up among members and desist from resulting to the media and other avenues to broadcast their issues which does not auger well for the development of democracy of the country.
The Constituency Chairman used the occasion to launch a national membership registration manual to kick-start the commencement of the registration of membership of the party in the constituency.By:A news desk report
