A 7 bedroom apartment serving as residences for Police and Nurses at Bompata in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, caught fire and burnt down last Sunday.
The incident happened around 10:00 am in the morning of 29th August, 2021 (Sunday).
According to one of the nurses by name Darko Spio Dominic, four (4) nurses at Bompata Health Center and two (2) police officers together with their wives and children live in the quarters.
Mr Darko further stated that aside the clothes on his back all his belongings including his uniforms and those of his colleagues who were in Church, had been reduced to ashes.
Speaking to Nyamekaakyire Akuah Boatemaah,a newscaster of Ahwenepa Fm, an eyewitness Mr. Yaw Nyantakyi lamented that they were unable to pick anything from the burning building and his worry was where the police Officers and nurses with their families would spend the night.
He also called on NADMO and philanthropists to come to their aid.Some residents of Bompata also narrated that the Konongo Fire Service came swiftly when they were called, only to realize that they did not have enough water and hurried to a nearby stream to get water to quench the fire but by then the damage had already been done even though the four (4) fire fighters including their driver tried their possible best but everything within the house got burnt even though the cause is not known.
