A cross section of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) especially in the Nsuta Kwamang Beposo constituency in the Ashanti region, have whispered into the ears of The New Trust Newspaper that plans were far advanced to drag the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate-elect for Nsuta Kwamang Beposo constituency in the Ashanti region,Miss Adelaide Ntim as well as the Party (NPP) to court over her alleged still holding of dual citizenship.
This, according to them is to help save the party from losing the seat to NDC or a strong independent candidate if the Party fails to ensure that the right thing is done and the Parliamentary candidate is disqualified by Electoral Commission (EC) after filing of nomination for Presidential and Parliamentary candidates elapse.
The concerned NPP followers explained that, the Parliamentary candidate-elect has been publicly silent on her dual nationality status and information available so far indicates that, the PC-elect was yet to adhere to the advice given to her and others with dual nationality and other issues to do the right thing as far as their candidature was concerned.
The concerned NPP followers in Nsuta Kwamang Beposo is therefore challenging Miss Ntim to publicly come out on her current nationality status, the document she used in acquiring the recent Voter’s ID among to help clear any doubt in the area.
According to them, with less than 85 days to the December polls much was not seen about the PC-elect especially simple posters and banners of her and Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo to create awareness as compare to her colleagues Parliamentary candidates in adjourning constituencies.
Moreover, whenever they go out to campaign they were confronted with the question of Miss Ntim’s dual nationality status since it came up in the run- up to the party’s primaries and after the primaries she has also remained silent and NDC members are seriously waiting to take advantage on that.
It would be recalled that, this paper has in the run-up to the Party’s Parliamentary primaries brought to light the dual nationality status of Miss Adelaide Ntim after she admitted to the National Vetting Committee team in Ashanti region which was chaired by the General Secretary of the Party (NPP),Mr.John Boadu with the assurance of renouncing it in due course.
The NPP concerned supporters and some constituency executives who spoke to this paper on condition of anonymity following last week edition of the paper headlined, “Filing of Nomination for 2020 Polls: Beware of dual citizens, fake documents-NPP & NDC Told”
The question on the lips of many leading members of the Party especially those in Nsuta Kwamang Beposo constituency as well as alleged 5 of his colleagues PCs-elect in other constituencies across the country as the party set up a vetting committee to scrutinize documents of all Parliamentary candidates –elect ahead of opening of nomination for Presidential and Parliamentary candidates for 2020 polls is when, where and how did they renounce their dual nationality and what is keeping them silent on the matter?
“As lovers of the party, we’re not asking for the leadership of NPP to disqualify her (Miss Ntim) but to make sure that the right thing was done by ensuring that she goes through the necessary process to enable her file her nomination to retain the seat for NPP come December 7 before we lose the seat to NDC”, they explained.
Adding that, their opponent NDC was also aware of the issue and should NPP leadership fail to act on time,NDC can take advantage to snatch the seat from NPP and we can’t sit down unconcern to allow NDC win Nsuta Kwamang Beposo seat!
We wish her (Miss Ntim)to set the records straight on her dual citizenship to end speculations going round if she has renounce her dual nationality. The concerned NPP members also made reference to a story which was published by ghanaweb.com, General News of Saturday, 19 July 2008
“Dual Nationality Disqualifies Aspiring NPP MP”
The legal committee of the New Patriotic Party has advised the party hierarchy to annul the election of Professor KojoAmoako as the party’s Abuakwa North parliamentary candidate on the grounds of holding dual nationality.
The professor was said to have made false declaration to the vetting committee in his bid to become the NPP parliamentary candidate.
He was said to be holding a Ghanaian and United States nationality before filing to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
In a letter cited by Joy News from the Legal Committee and addressed to party chairman Mr. Peter Mac Manu, indicate that the Professor violated article 94(2) of the national constitution which states that a person shall not be qualified to be a Member of Parliament if he holds allegiance to a country other than Ghana and article 2(4) of the NPP constitution which states no member shall be entitled to apply for nomination as an MP unless he qualifies under our electoral laws to become an MP.
After a careful scrutiny of 3 petitions sent before the legal committee, including that of the sitting MP, the committee said it was not impressed with the explanation by the professor that he planned to renounce his citizenship and would not have owed allegiance to any other country.
The committee said the professor failed to renounce his citizenship, rendering him ineligible to apply for the party’s candidature.
The Committee has therefore requested that Prof. Amoako’s application, vetting and election be annulled.
Meanwhile the party’s Steering Committee has referred the several unresolved parliamentary primaries to the highest decision making body of the party, the National Executives Committee for consideration and decision.
Meanwhile, when contacted Miss Adelaide Ntim has revealed that she has so far renounced her dual citizenship with US.Story by investigative desk report
